PUBLIC WORKS IS CELEBRATING ITS 9TH ANNIVERSARY AND YOU SHOULD BE EXCITED

Nestled in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District, a stone's throw away from the Highway 101 that cuts through the city, there is a club that has become synonymous with a guaranteed good night out. Its name is Public Works.

Public Works is a multi-functional community-driven nightclub that hosts everything from drag shows, story slams, and deep house yoga to world-class DJ sets and live music acts. It is an institution beloved by local promoters and DJs, not only for its community outreach but also for its interest in fostering local emerging talent and parties.

It is a club where you can have a great time without breaking the bank. Moderately priced drinks, affordable tickets, and a thoughtful lack of bottle service is part of Public Works’ commitment to giving the people what they want. In the words of Nate Seider, former Music Director at Smartbar Chicago: “It’s a club for regular-ass people.”

September 20th - 22nd, Public Works is celebrating its 9th anniversary and you should be very excited.

Why?

For one, this celebration is a 36-hour affair. That’s right, 36-hours of non-stop dancing! Two stories of hardwood dance floors and Funktion-One sound systems, four bars, and never before seen set designs. Nowhere in California will you find an event like this. Period.

And then there is the line-up featuring talent that you would normally find on a festival billing. There will be hip-hop heavyweights like DJ Questlove, genre fusion artists Andhim and Nickodemus, and dance music royalty Crazy P Soundsystem. If you were worried that there wouldn’t be enough house and techno, don’t fret because the likes of Ariel Zetina, LSDXOXO, and Noncompliant will have you covered; not to mention an army of DJs representing San Francisco’s local scene.

Nate Seider, who now handles Ticketing and Promotion at Public Works, spoke to Fault Radio about expectations for the upcoming anniversary party. “[It’s] definitely a marathon. It's a great 36-hours of programming. A lot of the talent on the bill is having a moment.”

Discovering and supporting talent has always been at the core of Public Works. “We have always been focused on being as forward-thinking as possible; leading as opposed to following'', said Steven Daniel Feiler, Junior Talent Buyer and one of the people responsible for this year's amazing line-up. When Fault Radio talked to him, he was fresh off a flight back from Sustain-Release in New York, but even the long journey could not damper his excitement for the upcoming 36-hour party. “There’s not another party like it in SF. It's almost an interpretation of what European clubs are like. There are only a few places in this country (US) that do this and we do it on one of the larger scales.”

Public Works’ Junior Talent Buyer, Steven Daniel Feiler goes by the DJ name - Nonsuit.
